The SUSHI project stems from a holistic approach to facing common challenges that have already been identified in historic districts of six cities in five countries: Lisbon (PT), Valletta (MT), Savona (IT), Ptuj (SI), Nicosia (CY), and Sassari (IT).
With the idea of sharing, the project adopted a common structure to identify opportunities for innovation, which would accelerate the learning process and transform historic districts into sustainable and lively districts. The key concept of SUSHI was to place sustainable development at the heart of the districts’ transformation to become the local driving force, adopting integrated approaches instead of isolated challenges.
In a logic of sharing, the project adopted a common framework to identify opportunities for innovation, using integrated approaches rather than isolated challenges, which would allow it to accelerate the learning process and transform historic districts into more sustainable, climate-resilient and inclusive neighborhoods.
Over the course of 28 months, the Lisboa E-Nova team, starting from a Vision – “Sustainable and Healthy Alfama for All” – evolved into an Agenda and from there into a pilot Living Urban Laboratory, as a way of testing new sustainable solutions capable of bringing about change in these historic neighborhoods.
